Podstrana

Geographical location

Podstrana occupies 11.5 m2 of Split-Dalmatia County. It stretches southeast from the city of Split between the river Žrnovica in the northwest and Mutogras hills in the southeast. The coastal part of Podstrana stretches 6 km along the beautiful beaches of the Brac Channel.

Historical sights

Old Podstrana was one of the most beautiful Dalmatian village, stone miracle of the southern slopes of Mosor hills. A number of ancient houses made of white worked stone in their yards and streets still hidden spirit of Dalmatia as it once was.
On Vršini, the hill above the village of stone was erectedin the 11th century church of St. George, the oldest church in Podstrana. From the same period dates and researched the cemetery near the church.

Cidro restored mansion is one of the most beautiful historic building in which constantly lives hundreds of years. The beauty and harmony of the stone facade, which proudly rising above the well-preserved gardens of lush Mediterranean vegetation, awakens in us the fantasies of the past and the life of the rich Dalmatian Family.

A great historical importance has a church St. Martin. In its walls are the remains of the sarcophagus of the Roman military commander Artorius Castus, who was speculated that it was the legendary King Arthur.

Church St. Ante and St. Roko is fully restored. It dates back to the 17th century and was built as a semi-church. The interior of the nave have been preserved wooden altar with altar Pale. Southeast of the church is preserved a stone tower.
